What Happens on Test Day?

The DVSA practical driving test includes:

  • Show Me / Tell Me vehicle safety questions
  • 20 minutes of independent driving (following sat nav or road signs)
  • 1 manoeuvre from a possible 3:
    • Parallel parking
    • Bay parking
    • Pulling up on the right and reversing

You may also be asked to perform an emergency stop.

How to Prepare Effectively:

  • Take Mock Driving Tests
Mock tests with your instructor help you simulate the real test experience and highlight weak areas.
  • Focus on Consistency
Being a good driver means doing the basics well — every time. Smooth gear changes, mirror checks, and awareness are crucial.
  • Manage Your Nerves
Learn techniques like deep breathing, visualisation, and positive mindset training to stay calm and focused on the day.

Instructor Advice:

  • Arrive early and bring your provisional licence
  • Avoid caffeine or heavy meals right before the test
  • Trust your training — you’re more ready than you think

Why It's Important:

Being mentally and technically prepared is the key to passing your driving test and becoming a safe, independent driver.
